1993-1994 Season Standing at the world number 5, Wattana just won only one ranking tournament, the 1994 Thailand Open held at Imperial Queenpark Hotel, by beating Steve Davis 9-7 frames.

However, when coming to the 1994 Embassy World, James could not pass Steve Davis at the quaterfinal round, defeated at score 9-13. Before meeting Davis, James beat Peter Ebdon 10-6 frames at the first round and Brian Morgan 13-9 at the second round. In the match against Morgan, James would have lost when Morgan leading 7-3. However, he fought back to level at 8-8 and finally, won the round.
