1991-1992 Season For this season, his seed number moving up to the 20th. In the U.K Championship, Wattana would almost have made his fans scream out when reaching the semifinal round against John Parrott. Unfortunately, he could not pass Parrott, beaten by the frame scores 7-9. Another defeat in semifinal round was in the1992 Mercantile Credit Classics when he was outperformed 1-6 frames by Stephen Hendry. But, this was not the worst loss of James against his opponent named Hendry. Hendry still beat James, almost white washed, again in the final round of 555 Wolrd Series 9-1 frame.

Finally, the tournamant that he gained a high reputation is during the match against Tony Drago in the 1992 British Open. Wattana produced a quick 147 break within 8 minutes. But, after match finished, he was shocked by the new of his father's death. Nevertheless, Wattana still went on to the final of this tournament against Jimmy White. And, what Wattana could do in this match was just catching up Jimmy from 0-5 to 2-7 and finally, losing at 7-10.

And his first ranking tournament victory came into his life in the 1992 Strachan Professional when this time James defeated John Parrott with the score 9-3 frames, the first time for him to lift the ranking Trophy.
